Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
GritKeep ("the app") is a personal AI fitness coaching app operated by Christopher Marsh ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices.
What we collect
- Account: your Apple ID sign-in (via Sign in with Apple) gives us a unique account identifier and, if you share it, your email address (Apple's private relay email is fully supported). We also store the display name you give the coach.
- Fitness profile: your training goals, experience level, schedule, available equipment, injury notes, and coaching preferences, plus the optional basics you may provide: age, biological sex, height, and weight.
- Training data: your workout plans, logged workouts and sets, check-in measurements (e.g. weight, body fat), and your conversations with the coach.
- Apple Health (HealthKit): only if you grant access, the app reads (never writes) weight, body fat percentage, height, workouts, steps, active energy, sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability, to prefill check-ins and personalize your plan. Health data is read-only, used only for coaching features, never used for advertising or marketing, and never shared with third parties for their own purposes. HealthKit data is stored on our servers, not in iCloud.
- Notifications: a device push token, so the coach can send workout reminders, (with your explicit consent and configurable quiet hours) accountability nudges, and a one-time heads-up before a free trial ends.
- Coach calls and voice: in-app accountability calls are an optional rung you must turn on. If you answer one, your audio is processed in real time by named service providers solely to hold the conversation: Deepgram (speech-to-text), Anthropic's Claude (the coach's replies), and ElevenLabs (the coach's voice synthesis). A transcript is kept as part of your coaching history. GritKeep never places calls to your phone number. Spoken coach replies in chat synthesize only the coach's own text, never your voice.
- Progress photos: if you choose to take them, they are stored on your account, shown only to you, and deletable anytime.
- Challenges: if you invite a friend to a challenge, the display name and messages you enter are visible to the people in that challenge.
- Purchases: subscription status comes to us from Apple via our billing provider (RevenueCat). We never see your card number or billing details; Apple handles payment entirely.
- Diagnostics: crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics), not tied to your coaching data. If you submit an in-app bug report, it includes your description plus a debug package (account identifier, app and iOS version, device model, settings such as timezone and coach persona, and recent app diagnostic logs). The app shows you the exact package before you send it, and it never includes your health data or chat content.
- Website visits: gritkeep.com uses Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, pages viewed and referring sites, so we can tell which channels bring people to the app. This is separate from your coaching data and is never linked to your account.
Exercise data and videos provided by MuscleWiki.com. Demo videos are streamed from MuscleWiki's servers when you open an exercise; they are never stored by the app, and no personal data is shared with MuscleWiki.
How we use it
Your data is used for one purpose, coaching you: generating and adjusting your training plan, remembering your history and preferences, tracking progress, and delivering the reminders and nudges you opted into.
To provide the AI coaching, the relevant context (your profile, plan, workout history, health data you have shared, and messages) is sent to and processed by Anthropic's Claude API under commercial terms that do not permit Anthropic to train models on this data. During coach calls and spoken replies, call audio and coach text are processed by Deepgram and ElevenLabs as described above. Each of these providers processes your data only to deliver the service, under agreements that require protections equivalent to this policy, and none of them may use your data for their own purposes. You are asked for permission in the app before any of your data is shared with these AI services. Your data is stored with our infrastructure providers: Google Firebase (authentication, app services) and Neon (database), in the United States.
We do not sell your data, show ads, use ad tracking, or share your data with anyone for their own purposes.
Your choices and rights
- Health access is optional and can be revoked anytime in iOS Settings → Health.
- Notifications and accountability nudges are configurable in the app, including quiet hours; consent for escalating nudges can be withdrawn in Settings.
- Delete everything: Settings → Delete account permanently removes your account and all server-side data (profile, plans, workouts, measurements, coaching memory, chat and call history, progress photos, challenge participation, and bug reports).
- Questions or requests: contact hello@gritkeep.com.
Not medical advice
GritKeep provides general fitness and wellness guidance only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Consult a physician before starting an exercise program, and stop and seek medical care if you experience pain, dizziness, or other concerning symptoms.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your region) and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We will update this policy as the app evolves and note the date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
